Private Instruction

I have been teaching private lessons to students ages 6 to 75 years of age in the Albuquerque NM area. My focus is on basic drawing techniques, design and color theory. My students work in graphite, charcoal, pen and ink, chalk pastel, watercolor and acrylic. Lessons are typically 1 to 2 hour sessions, once a week. My rate includes all supplies. Contact me for more information on availability and costs.

Workshops / Classes

I have held several workshops on watercolor basics, design, color theory and techniques. Typical class sizes are 8-12 students, and can range from single or several day sessions of 6 hours each. If you are interested in having a workshop for a group of artists, please contact me to make arrangements.

March 22-24, 2026 (Sun - Tue) 9:30AM - 4:30PM

High Impact Compositions in Watercolor

Working from photos (personal or provided), participants will learn to identify and distill the essentials of composition. Then, students will practice developing balanced perspectives and value studies for stronger foundations. This process will minimize clutter, while strengthening and refining the painting center of interest. Participants will also develop color palettes; exploring warm vs. cool colors and the roles they play. Starting with the backgrounds using a "wet into wet" technique, artists will block in the shapes and values from their value study to produce soft edges and atmospheric effects that unify and harmonize the background and focal point. As time allows there will also be discussions/demos of effective "tips and tricks", along with one-on-one time (does not include pouring techniques).

Classes held at Hispanic Arts Building, EXPO-NM, Enter Gate #3, San Pedro and Copper NE
